A ‘Gatsby’ Marathon at American Repertory Theater

NYTimes.com: "What happens between a novel and a consenting reader is usually a deeply personal activity, occurring behind the closed doors of individual minds. It is arguably more intimate and subjective than sex. And if someone asked you, “Want to watch me read a book for the next six or seven hours?” you would probably — and wisely — decline."

I'm a little unclear as to what these productions entail, and the article was a little confusing, but for the most part it sounds really cool. I think the idea is very attractive to people who read because it is an intimate journey you take with the characters/the author in general. For people who really understand it, it's a real trip. Ask Brian Alderman, who was in the room while I was reading 'Blasted,' because it was pretty entertaining watching me gasp in horror every five seconds. I would definitely devote an entire day to seeing The Great Gatsby reading/showing, especially if it included an intermission/a dinner break. It would be a really nice event to attend.
