The shows go on in Chicago. Quietly.

Chicago Tribune: "So if you want to see the trio of Broadway musicals 'Jersey Boys,' 'Wicked' and 'Phantom of the Opera' this Thanksgiving weekend, you can do so only in Chicago. Unless you want to cross the Atlantic."

Chicago seems to be taking advantage of New York City…This author probably is good at doing business. Nobody would cross Atlantic only for seeing Jersey Boys, Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. It'd cost lots of money.
Cats, Phantom and other Broadway musical have ever toured to my country. There were always some young friends of mine asking me if they should go to the show and saying the ticket were very expensive. And I always suggested them to see the show, though these were touring company, unless they'd want to pay US$1000-or so for air ticket to go to New York City.

It seems that the structure that chicago has between the union and the theatres should be modified for new york's system. If everything is working fine in Chicago, then it should work in new york as well, if they change some details. IT is better that they are less vocal about still being open because that might induce a strike in chicago as well. Chicago seems to be an up and coming place to see shows.

I think it's just been so confusing to many people with both strikes going on where things are still running, especially when you have the WGA striking on both sides of the country. I'm glad to see though that there is a mutual thought that they shouldn't stir the waters with their New York brethren.
