'Winnie the Pooh' comes to life as stage musical

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "'Winnie the Pooh' -- the first play in the 38th season of Pittsburgh International Children's Theater -- combines several of author A.A. Milne's tales featuring the honey-loving bear with the red shirt. The adventures of Pooh and his friends, including Eeyore and Piglet, blend together onstage in a musical production that includes singing and dancing by the characters, and an instrumental score."

Well, here it is yet again. Another new musical that comes from a story that was once, incredibly sucessful in a form of entertainment that WAS NOT theatre. I don't know about you guys, but I find it embarrassing that new authors with good material are being beaten out by shows that only exist to make money. I prefer not to see a bear dancing and singin on stage with no pants in, thank you very much.

They don't have tigger...that doesn't seem right. I have to agree with Anthony, I'm getting tired of all these theatrical remakes of nontheatrical things. Its for kids..I get it...but there has o be someone out there with some new, great children's play....

As much of a disgrace to all the wonderful and creative people in the world that Winnie the Poo is becoming a musical, if i was a Mommy, taking little Sally to a musical that i KNOW that we would both enjoy is a promising way to spend money. With the price of entertainment so high, people are not always willing to shell out a pot of gold and up with something like... the pirate queen.

I find it amazing that they are going to stage Winnie The Pooh, and I can forsee a lot of parents going to buy tickets for the show. But what I am really thinking is, if they are going to stage Winnie The Pooh, is it going to be different? If only the producers can see beyond and see the wonders of breaking the norm.

This sounds absolutely adorable! I can't find it in me to be pessimistic about it, just because I love Pooh so much, so maybe it's best if I don't see it. Although the Frog and Toad musical also thrilled me, as those were another of my favorite books from when I was a kid. I would love to see production photos of this - and not gunna lie I kinda do actually want to see it. The author of the article seems to have a pretty positive outlook on the show, so maybe it's not all bad! But I do have to agree with Anthony - that in reality, I'd rather have a new work being put on stage, cuz as fun as Winnie the Pooh is, a fresh new work is always so much more exciting, and we need more of that, rather than more revivals and plays being made from other sources - though that is the trend now. We'll see.

And I agree with Jillian - no tigger? That is clearly a problem. And Rico - haha that's why you see shows like The Pirate Queen for free :-p.
