Spring 2008 Is Target for New TKTS Booth Opening in Times Square

Playbill News: "Ground was broken May 1, 2006, for construction of the Theatre Development Fund's new TKTS discount ticket booth on Duffy Square — inside Times Square — with the hope of a late 2006 opening. That target date has come and gone, but there is light at the end of the tunnel."

Thought i find the TKTS reps idea of 'people coming to sit at the tkts booth and becoming inspired to buy theatre tickets' is a bit extreme and idealistic, i still think the booth is a wonderful idea.

The main way that i feel it will be used is by offering a nice 'theatrically oriented' enviornment for students to sit and enjoy Times Square as they kill the awkward amount of time between the student ticket purchase time and the show's curtain time.

I can't really imagine what this is going to look like. I assume it will be good, but who knows. But in addition to this "sitting area" for 1500 people, I'm curious how the booth itself will be laid out. The lines have always been long, but go quickly considering their length, and if you needed to see a play rather than a musical, the line was basically non-existent. I actually haven't been to the TKTS booth since they moved to their temporary location, just out of coincidence, but I'll be eager to see the improvement.

It'll be interesting to see the progress of the booth this winter, and then finally when it's completed in the spring. It seems like quite an undertaking, but hopefully it will be worth it and look great, as well as function well.
