Sorkin Will Script Flaming Lips Musical

Entertainment Weekly: "The Great White Way will never be the same: In an exclusive interview, Wayne Coyne, lead singer of the Flaming Lips, told EW.com that the psych-rock band will team up with acclaimed TV writer and show creator Aaron Sorkin to turn the group's 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots into a Broadway musical."

I love that a musical is being formed off of a record, I think that is a great idea. It's also ironic to me that of all bands it's the Flaming Lips becasue anyone who has seen them live knows that there shows are unlike any other concert. Their live performances include giant balloons and balls being thrown into the audience, hundreds of costumes and people on stage, at my show they even handed out laser pointers. The Flaming Lips are very creative so I'm really excited for how this will turn out.

I'm really excited about this! The Flaming Lips are good and it should be exciting. I like the comparison of it not so much as a story to a mood. All of the things that they have come out with are really creative and fun songs so it will be a lot of fun to see what happens.

Well, Tommy did work, in the opinion of most people, although I not a huge fan of the show. I am not familiar with the Flaming Lips, but Sorkin's involvement really intrigues me. How much of a say he has in the script could hurt the show, because he doesn't exactly fit into the music scene that I know the Flaming Lips are a part of. If he lets the play be written by the music, then it should be good, but he can't try to change the music to his liking.
