Pittsburgh CLO, Carnegie Mellon, ASCAP and Schwartz Join Forces for New Musicals Development
Playbill News: "Pittsburgh CLO and the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama have partnered with The ASCAP Foundation and composer Stephen Schwartz to develop new musicals as part of the Pittsburgh CLO/Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama New Works Program."

This seems like a really good idea and a great opportunity for students to see the process of creating a new work in a different and more professional way than we are used to. I think that having connections with other organizations like the CLO and ASCAP are important to expanding our horizons and understanding the big picture of our industry as opposed to concentrating solely on what is going on within our immediate community in the school of drama.
I am really excited to see this. I am usually not a fan of musicals but I am very interested to see this process.
I am also curious to see how we work with other organizations like CLO and ASCAP.
Its so exciting to be going to a school that participates in the innovation of our industry at large. I think it is extremely important that the school is not a cloistered training ground for future artists, rather a place where we are a part of theatre, even if we still have our training wheels on.
This is a really great opportunity for CMU students. I really enjoyed getting to record and edit Yeast Nation last year which was a similar workshop. Exposure to outside productions and new works is a great way to become more familiar with the development process as well as make industry contacts to help them later in their career.
