New York Post: "On the eve of the first preview of 'Young Franken stein,' a growing chorus of theater people, their hearts as black as night, secretly hope Mel Brooks' latest Broadway musical falls far short of the hype."
Most of the time Reidel's pretty accurate, but this isn't one of his better efforts. The whole backstage furor at gay jokes thing is completely made up, as far as I can tell - it's nothing compared to The Producers.
The Guild did things for Brooks, why couldn't he just suck it up and let the 3% go to them so that they can help other writers. That's the danger of joining an organization like this... There certainly does seem to be a lot of ridiculous drama centering around this production... I hope it is all worth it.
