As a Company Leaves Town, Arts Grants Follow
New York Times: "For four decades, as New York’s arts scene flourished, the most reliable source of corporate funds for the city’s dance companies, theaters and art museums was the Philip Morris Companies, maker of the world’s most popular cigarette."

An unfortunate situation, but its part of the business. A good number of major airline companies sponsor local arts organizations in the city they are based in; their annual public donations seems to be dropping as well.
Its interesting sometimes what companies end up funding the arts, and how much the arts get hurt when they move, but really I have little pitty for them. Everybody has to find funding, and they just had a really easy sources for a while, and now they will have to search again. It would be different if the company and the arts where related, such as a factory supports a town and then decides to get up in move. Thats just cold, but the business has to do what they have to do.
