State funding breathes life back into arts

Marketplace: "A few years back, many state coffers were bare. When budgets had to be slashed, arts funding was one of the biggest casualties. Now that money is coming back — and it has everything to do with local economics."

It's great to hear that the arts are getting significant funds. Non-profit art organizations are exactly that - non-profit, but with help from state funds they can improve. It's crazy to think about a society not wanting to fund art. When I think about what we talked about, I believe in Foundations one day, about how some cultures would put their money into art first and above many other things in the economy/society. I'm not sure how good that is, but in theory it's great. And since now arts funding helps the economy - all the better!

This is rather exciting! It is always so sad to hear about budget cuts, and the arts somehow are always the first to go. It is true that the arts can contribute greatly to the economy so I think this will be a benefit to everyone.

This reminds me of our Foundations 2 lectures, when in some of the Ancient Eastern cultures the government supported the theatre fully. Gave them money and licensed the artists. It would be nice to reach a point where the artistic endeavors of theatres can once again be supported by the government. Take some of that money out of the military and give it to the arts.

Thank goodness that the arts are starting to get more funding. We always hear about and most of us have been affected in one way shape or form through budget cuts. It is interesting though that other cultures put their money in the arts first.
