Paris shows feminine side
Variety.com: "If you thought theater in Paris was dominated by French boulevard farces with saucy maids and winking adulterers, think again. Musicals? Mais non, the days of Gallic 'Les Miserables' wannabes are over. The biggest commercial hits now are works targeting women -- the legit equivalent of a 'chick flick' -- and shows headlining TV stars, even including the occasional news anchor."

It seems like "art for art's sake" is not really a factor in the big theatre business anymore. If it ever was. This whole "targeting audiences" reminds me of Broadways methods of making money. Get a show based on something everyone knows and loves, put some people in it everyone knows and loves, and BAM, make some money. Sad.
