A Passover Sermon, a Play, and a Century of the Melting Pot

New York Times: "The melting pot metaphor, touchstone of America’s debate over immigration, was claimed by the rabbi of a New York City synagogue, who said he coined it in a Passover sermon he gave exactly 100 years ago."

what a great article. it goes along with what we are discussing in interp. with Joseph Roach, and the idea of history. hearing this puts a whole other meaning on the term that is so oftenly used to discribe the U.S. in a good light. looking at it in this light we see that infact the term was meant in a bad light. where it takes the negative aspect and only shows the good, simply ignoring the bad. this is great. we'll think twice before using this term again.
