Post Gazette: "Opera for children has meant the kids stay home with a baby sitter while the parents go to the theater -- either that, or Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd parodying Wagner."

I personally have been a fan of Opera for a long time but I can relate to how children can enjoy these condensed versions of Opera's. One thing which they mention is about writing opera's for a younger teen or child performer. Back home I knew some people who were part of young artists program for the opera company in the area and they found it very beneficial and as an artist grew and took a lot from this experience. In one particular friends case she got paid and private instruction however I know the man who ran the program was quite weary of bringing in other youth's for their voice is still not fully developed however the experience that one gains from working with companies. I am glad to see that such serious work like Opera is being opened up to child audiences and performers.
