City backs formula for taxing of nonprofit organizations

Post Gazette: "Contributions by universities, hospitals and other nonprofit organizations to the city of Pittsburgh should be based on a fair formula, rather than the current pay-what-you-want system, several city officials said yesterday."

I don't understand taxing non-profits...i feel like it's just another way for the city to try and make money...the non profit arts orgnaizations and education systems are already in finanial trouble let alone having to make a mandatory contribution as oppossed to a voulntary gift seems a little ridiculous...the city can find ways to support these organizations first and then ask them to give back...otherwise i think its a little unreasonable.
