As someone who frequently finds themselves in situations where I have little-no time to prepare, these apps are truly a time saver. I already use iRFR from ETC frequently when I am away from the console focusing fixtures, or trying to sit down at the directors table and talk about decisions on looks while stile having near full functionality of a control console. Touch OSC also is something I will now be looking into especially when I am working on a ChamSys console and am in need of additional space for playbacks and cue lists. This article also brings introduces some tools and calculators which seem pretty helpful. Since the ability to measure lux often comes with a price tag, these apps seem to be a reasonable solution to getting quick and easy access to a lux reading at an affordable price. They also offer additional tools to troubleshoot RDM and DMX which make it even more powerful than just a way to measure light output.

This article was a great stepping point. As a head technician at my school, many experiences with lighting has come my way and the number of times I counted that the Show Tool LD would have helped is staggering. After reading the first page alone, I started to check my phone to see if my phone can download these apps. I may not be a lighting designer nor a electrics-focused technician, but these apps and quick reference guides would be great for those times my help is needed or a job is needed to get done. Or even for a lighting design class and looking for gel ideas. I hope from these apps I can find some similar and relevant apps that relate more directly to stage and construction work. I find as technology advances and phones become more and more relevant within theatre, these kinds of apps are becoming more popular and slowly starting to develop, yet the focus has stuck with electrics and rigging so far. It will be interesting to see if more fields within technical theatre start to use their own specialized apps.

This article was very helpful to see the apps out there for lighting designers. I had looked for apps before, but I could never find anything because I didn’t know what to search for. At my school, we just got the ETC iRFR app on our booth iPad and it was a complete game changer, we no longer had to have some at the board when we were focusing or working on the grid. It was fascinating to see that there was a gel book app, it just goes to show that there is an app for everything, but honestly, it would be very helpful used gels other than Rosco. It was really great to see that apps like Barbizon Electrician handbook and lighting handbook existed that I could use if there is anything I am not confident in something because there isn't a teacher at my school who I could go to. I definitely don’t need to use many of these apps right now, but it's really great to know that there are lots of apps out there.
