Reports Lay Bare Gender Pay and Bonus Gaps in British TV

Variety: ITV revealed Tuesday that its male employees earn, on average, 16.4% more than female employees – the latest British media and entertainment company to publicly acknowledge its gender pay gap. The BBC, Channel 4 and ITN have also reported figures showing that, across the board, men collect significantly bigger paychecks and bonuses on average than their female counterparts.

Where do I even start? This is one of the most common problems that exists today for women. People who say the pay gap isn’t real or is a myth, needs to accept facts, and if they can’t even acknowledge it, they shouldn’t be in a position where they set someone’s pay. I am disappointed in this industry for allowing a gap that pays sixteen percent less. By paying women less, that gives men the opportunity to still look at us as property, as people they need to take care of. The pay gap allows men to stay in the highest ranks of power, including, but not limited to, the top five percent of the economic class. I am glad to hear that two of these companies now have female CEOs, but it’s hard to make salary changes when people are already signed into a contract, so let’s adjust everyone please so we can finally see some change. Numbers can’t be denied.
