I Don’t Want to “Disrupt” the Live Entertainment Industry

Selling Out: Talk to any shiny new entrepreneur today, and he or she will tell you that their goal is to “disrupt” whatever industry they’re part of. Disruption, when it really happens, changes the fundamental rules of the game, usually to the benefit of consumers and, of course, to the massive benefit of the company doing the disruption.

*sigh* I can't think of an art form more ripe for disruption than theater. We stuck our heads in the sand a hundred years ago when film disrupted the hell out of the storytelling market, and we haven't made a move since then. But I don't expect anyone to do it who is making a living off of the status quo, as these guys are. They don't want anything to change, because they just figured out how to make it work for them.
