Top 10 Live Shows of 2022

Consequence: It’s been a rocky few years for the live music industry. There was that whole “gap” year, the tentative return in 2021, and then the full on explosion that occurred over the last 12 months. Concerts came back with a vengeance, with our favorite artists, acclaimed newcomers, and formerly retired icons all returning to the stage.

It is no surprise to me that all the musicians on this list were already incredibly famous prior to these concerts. What initially struck me was that seven of these ten shows were reunion, farewell, remembrance, or shows of a similar nature. At first I found this surprising but after a little thought it made complete sense. In a time of crisis bands and artists are able to make a fortune by making farwell and reunion tours as not only does it bring excitement and happiness to those struggling, but this time has caused artists to reflect. Two artists stick out to me in particular, Elton John and Joni Mitchell. Elton John always claims to be making farewell tours, but is always returning to the stage. I think this is how he is always able to turn such a huge profit because not only does he have so many fans, but the prospect of it being his last performance always turns a huge crowd out to see him. I would be interested to see what the difference in turnout would be for a normal concert. Joni Mitchell’s concert was spectacular and it is no surprise to me that she is on this list. I wish I could have seen her live. Despite her stroke she performed and I think that brought her huge respect and joy to her fans.
