japanese company ARAKAWA invents the world's most compact gripper mechanisms
www.designboom.com: designboom’s editorial team is comprised of architects and designers with a passion for well-resolved details. during DESIGNART tokyo 2019, we discovered a japanese company that produces robust and tiny tools for the creative world: gripper mechanisms. in 1975, dr. hideo arakawa, founder of ARAKAWA, invented the first gripper mechanism, which could be adjusted along the wire with one push, and locked without a set of screws.

I think this design is really unique and interesting. I had never thought about the different ways that wire could be placed to hold up objects such as sculpture or other works of art. I think that this mechanism that holds the wire and basically inserts itself into a ball point that is just inserted into the ceiling or floor is really cool. I think the article itself didn’t do the hook enough justice. I think they did a good job at showing how the product could be used in different professional settings, but I think they could have explained how they product actually worked a little bit better. As someone who is not very familiar with these types of products, I was very confused as to what they were talking about for like two whole paragraphs of the three paragraph article. Overall, I think the hook is really cool and will be put to good use.
