This is a hard situation to face for any party, except maybe the defendants who are probably relieved that all of this craziness is finally over. It does not help that the reason for the dismissal was a simple delay that then led to the reappointment of the Judge for the case. I understand this story has a lot of background information and extenuating circumstances that need to be investigated, but that doesn’t mean it should be dismissed solely because of a trial delay. I also had no idea that by extending trial deadlines and letting them pass could pardon the defendants, but I guess all things considered, right to a speedy trial is a ruling factor in court cases. I wonder if any evidence or research surrounding the case can be released to the public or the families, at least, after a certain amount of time for the sake of public safety and preventing these kinds of accidents from happening again.
