Leguizamo & Miranda Help Kick Off Viva! Broadway for Hispanic Heritage Month
Stage Directions: The Broadway League kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Viva Broadway free outdoor celebration on Friday, September 15 in Duffy Square. Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Leguizamo (Latin History for Morons) co-hosted the festivities. For the fourth consecutive year, The Broadway League worked in partnership with AARP to champion Viva Broadway. This year’s event was sponsored by Spectrum, with support provided by the Times Square Alliance.

I think this is so great. As I have grown up, I have realized more and more that the Hispanic culture is is lacking in the Broadway community. Either Broadway wasn't ready for the Hispanic prominent shows or there were no roles in the shows for Hispanics at all So, it is great to hear that Hispanic Heritage Month is getting recognized by the Broadway community and that the celebration is only growing after its fourth year in motion. I think that its not only important to showcase the diverse talent of Broadway, but also give the Hispanic audience people to look up to. Seeing yourself in a role model is so important and I love how this celebration is making that easier for the audiences and maybe even potential audiences.I really like what the article says about "bridging the world of Broadway with Latino audiences around the country." Sadly i agree that the Broadway world and the Latino culture do not match up, but with transparency and familiar faces, we can certainly bridge that divide.
