Graphics in Full Bloom

www.signshop.com: Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City debuted its “Glam Gardens” annual spring beauty event three years ago as a celebration of its top beauty retail partners and charitable partnership with The New York Botanical Garden. During the event, floral themes fill the windows and interiors of Saks Fifth Avenue stores, including its flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York City where Saks’ beauty and fragrance brands partner to design unique garden window displays.

The ways to insure structural stability, while still keeping a design is something that comes up a lot and sometimes it is hard to compromise on a design or integrate structural stability without losing the deign. As a person who is more on the design side than the structure side, it is always hard to when you hear, “we cant build that” (well we could build it just how much do you want to pay” . In my experiences in this, it really test the designer and their commitment to their vision because it forces them to rethink the design and keep the same general feeling while incorporating the structural elements that will work with the materials you will be using. In the case of Sacs they have a larger budget so they could just change the material they are working with, but in the case of a lower budget project, where the materials might be limited, the design is the thing that will have to accommodate for the structural stability. And also what is interesting about the Sacs situation is the time frame issue. The material that they ended up going with was a concise choice made to accommodate for the short window that they had to produce and ship these pieces. If they had more time they could have designed them a different way to possibly make the stands smaller to a point were some stores did not have to hang them. There are so many things that can be a constraints on a design and it is important to realize all of those factors and take them into account.
