jezebel.com: Garry Marshall’s final project, Pretty Woman: The Musical, is finally coming to Broadway. Are you ready for that?
It doesn’t matter—it’s happening. Deadline reports that the show will make its way to the stage sometime next fall, after a five-week tryout in Chicago that starts March 13, 2018.

Pretty woman can easily go on stage, and with a cast like this it has the potential to be a hit. I think its a very interesting that they chose two actors, Steve Kazee and Samantha Barks, to play the main characters in a romantic comedy when the two actor have been known for playing these incredible dramatic roles in Once and Les Miserables. I believe that they'll be able to bring a new level of endearment to these characters which in turn would further the plot creating a certain level of depth in the show. Onstage, everything is heightened, and by putting this well beloved movie on the stage, I think a whole new meaning will be uncovered and it may or may not work out.
When I first heard the rumors of this musical I really didn't know what to think and honestly this article didn't give me much more information to go off of. After pondering it a little longer however, I think that this musical has the possibility of being very entertaining. This movie has so many different effects on its audience that I think a stage version would be easily attention grabbing. I found it strange how the article brought up that the original actors couldn't do it simply because they couldn't sing or dance. I am pretty sure they already sing and dance and if they tried hard enough they could perform these roles. I get that the author of this article was trying to segway into talking about the new leads of the musical, but I think this was poorly done. Overall, I think this article brings attention to the new talent of the musical but leaves the reader wanting more information.
Once again, another film to theatrical event nostalgia event! I am actually pretty excited for this-as far as adaptations go, I think turning this story into a musical is much better than a new movie version. The movie itself is such a fan favorite, that I think of course people will be paying close attention and might be reluctant to any sort of change, but I think the concept is great. Of course I'd love to see Richard Gere reclaim the role, as he is a performer (Chicago anyone?) but it is nice to relaunch the project with new blood. I would hope that we are able to get more information than this-this article is very sparse with much information other that the show is happening without the film leads reprising their roles. I wonder if this show will be as popular as the mean girl revival, and if it is, what other movies from this era will be adapted. Here is rooting for Run Away Bride.
