I actually sent this article to my old TD after reading it. The pilot hole trick was very simple, but nifty. I never knew that you should drill a hole longer than the screw, but I guess thats because I've used mostly softwood for set construction. I had also never thought to use a utility knife to mark cuts. Even though these tips are meant to be for around the house DIYs, many of these tips can be applied to set construction, because a lot of the time, set construction is just building sections of a house. The tips about adding wall blocking, molding, and door hardware are all very useful if you are building a realistic, detailed set. The tip about the circular saw guide was the one I liked the most. Even though the circular saw was the first saw I learned how to use, I don't like to use it a lot because if your hand isn't absolutely steady, the cut can be seriously messed up and not straight. The guide is such a clever idea, especially for inexperienced high schoolers trying to build scenery.
