Fire, Dust Storms, and Scorching Heat: This Year's Burning Man Sounds Like the End of Days
gizmodo.com: Visitors to the Burning Man festival are really getting to live out their Mad Max dreams this year. But it isn’t so much post-apocalyptic as it is just apocalyptic. Dust storms and a heat wave ensured that it was going to be a rough event from the beginning, and now an enormous wildfire has shut down the main road that accesses the week long celebration.

I have always thought people who attended the Burning Man Festival were a little crazy, but now that they’re literally braving dust storms and road closures and a massive wildfire really reinforces my sentiments. I wonder at what point the area will have to become completely evacuated for public safety and other factors. A festival is hard enough to run in the middle of a city abundant with resources, let alone in the middle of the desert with now the only main access road closed to both directions of traffic. I haven’t read about the operations side of Burning Man in awhile so I’m also wondering how supplies get brought in and out of the festival grounds because right now I can only imagine people are expected to bring all their own materials and I do not know how to prepare for dust storms and wildfires, so how could they?
We all make sacrifices for our art, but the people at Burning Man are taking it to a whole new level. This shows true dedication to what they love and do right here. Art can be painful, but if it is coming from your heart, it is totally worth it. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy!
I have always wanted to attend the burning man festival but I still have to admire the commitment of the attendees this year. In a way, the horrible conditions highlight the festival's central allure of coming together to have an unconditionally good time and enjoy art. The commitment of the attendees this year is admirable, and someday I would hope to join them.
