As the 2017 festival winds down, photos of the spectacularly colorful event have cropped up all over Instagram. And if there's one thing we've come to expect from Burning Man, it's a healthy dose of wild costumes and incredible art installations.

The concept of Burning Man fascinates me. I love the idea that it is a place where a person’s primal instincts and inclinations are not just heard, but honored and celebrated. I appreciate that the invitation is extended not to just experience art and different ideas, as seems to be the case in most other festivals, but to follow your own creative path throughout the festival and be a creator as well. The artist within all of the festival-goers is honored. The photographs in this article are absolutely fascinating. The pieces each encapsulate the aesthetic of the artist in their most pure form because they feel free to experiment without judgment. I enjoy the radically different influences that are presented and the stories that are told completely visually. My favorite piece was the massive, glowing jellyfish construction. I love the juxtaposition of the organic subject and shape and the urban in industrial materials used to create it.
Before I read this article, I had no previous knowledge of this collection of projects. After reading this and learning more about it, I am incredibly shocked by the photos and the sculptures within them. The massive installations and projects have so much detail and creativity to every single piece. I can only imagine the amount of time spent on each project and the story behind each one. This event seems like something I would like to attend in the future, and possibly use past installations to inspire my own creativity especially for design and production projects.
I am surprised I have never herd of this festival before. It seems like a unique experience filled with huge sculptures and interactive art pieces. While the article covers a lot about what the Festival is, I am still left with so many questions. Like, where do all of these sculptures come from? How many artists are involved in making art for this festival and what are the parameters they are given to abide by? From one of the pictures in the article the event itself looks very large. I wonder if all of the exhibits are as large as the ones pictured in the article. Another question I have is who are the attendees of the festival? Locals? or do people travel from far and wide to come see the festival. Overall, this seems like a cool event unlike any other event I have herd of. I think it would be really cool to take a trip and get lost in the bizarre world.
These sculptures are so impressive and large scale. The planning and creating for each one must have taken definitely a year or even more. I love hearing about festivals like Burning Man, where everyone comes together to express themselves through art. The pictures in the articles not only capture the beauty of each individual piece but also the extreme detail and technicalities behind each piece. I also love the range of sizes and subject for each sculpture. The festival seems to accept personal costumes, decorated vehicles, along with just massive puppet like statues. Something I would love to hear about more is how did they transfer the sculptures to this obscure part of Nevada and how hard was the assembling of them? How long did it take?
What a trip! All these pictures from Burning Man are absolutely incredible. The sheer artistic creativity shown in these large scale models and puppets are breathtaking. Seeing them in pictures, I’m sure, does not do them justice. Even the description from the Burning Man website: ““Beyond the dogmas, creeds, and metaphysical ideas of religion, there is immediate experience. It is from this primal world that living faith arises,” Burning Man's website declares. “In 2017, we will invite participants to create interactive rites, ritual processions, elaborate images, shrines, icons, temples, and visions.” And it appears that, as always, participants let their wild sides out, posing on—or in front of—the different installation that dot the desert.” Isn’t enough. These pieces of art seem like things you have to see to believe. My goal is to one day make it out to Burning Man, although it might be something I have to do when I have a bit more money in my pocket. Some day though, some day.
Burning Man is so bizarre, ridiculous, and over-the-top in every single way. I talked about some of the seedier elements of Burning Man, but these pictures show the more wonderful, creative side of the festival. It's so impressive to see what artists create for a festival like this. This gathering is a great excuse to build whatever you want. People will appreciate it no matter what, and it doesn't really matter what your art is, a ballerina, a giant heart, etc. People will find it wonderful no matter what, and theres something about such an accepting community that's inspiring.
