The C.E.O. of ‘Hamilton’ Inc.

The New York Times: As the lead producer of the hit musical “Hamilton,” Jeffrey Seller straddles a divide between art and commerce. In his appearance and manner, he takes pains not to come across as a suit, the money guy in a bohemian world of waiters and food runners who have scraped, sweated and auditioned their way onto Broadway.

This was a great article. It was a very well-written and informative look into Jeffrey Seller’s life. I can only imagine the difficulty of coordinating a runaway hit musical like Hamilton. The article mentioned that there might be up to seven different Hamilton companies in the near future. I think that’s more than Wicked currently has. Obviously, he has a multitude of experience with managing Broadway musicals. I don’t often think about the role of a producer in the process of putting up a show. I won’t work on any shows with an actual producer until I get out of school and into the real world, but it’s still worth thinking about. I’m always fascinated by how producers get started. Seller wrote Jonathan Larson a letter about wanting to get involved in Rent, then went on to produce it. The world of producing somewhat mystifies me, but I very much respect it and recognize its importance.
