Hoist Pre-Operational Safety Inspection Part 1: Safety Standards and Regulations
blog.cmworks.com: When using hoisting equipment, it is very important to know and understand all of the safety and inspection standards that apply to your lifting system. Depending on the type of equipment you are using, different standards may apply. This can often be confusing as different regulations apply to different parts of the lifting system.

I knew there were a lot of standards and regulations that certain organizations have laid out as safe rigging practices, but I did not know that there are often this many involved in fairly simple lift systems. If for no other reason, I think it is important to be knowledgeable in all rigging safety standards, whether or not they are required or followed at your workplace (hopefully important ones are followed). I may have said it in previous posts, but it’s worth repeating. I’m terrified of overhead rigging, and the day that I find that I’m not terrified of it I will go as far away from it as I possibly can. There’s a certain respect for safety that comes with the fear I have of rigging, and it is certainly a powerful motivator for following every rule and safety precaution you know. I’ll look out for the rest of these articles (there should be more coming I hope) and hopefully some tips, not just the names of standards, will be shared.
Also, I do think it’s interesting that a Peter Cooke wrote the article. Just sayin.
