Atlanta Daily World: It is certainly apropos that the greater Atlanta area would commence with an entertainment training program to harness and cultivate the burgeoning — if not exploding — base of residents who aspire to work in the industry.
Georgia is one of the three major movie-making epicenters of America, more specifically in and around the city of Atlanta. Mayor Kasim Reed is looking to capitalize off this enviable metropolitan asset. Subsequently, his office and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local (IATSE) 479 are launching the City of Atlanta Entertainment Training Program.

This industry training program is definitely no surprise with the growth that the film industry has been undergoing in Atlanta! I've heard more than once that there's not a lot of specialized, educated film labor out there and that if you want to make it in the film industry, starting out in a city with a lot of jobs and not a lot of competition is a good post-grad plan. Clearly, better get there soon! Programs like these are great because they rely on set experience to teach skills and industry standards, which is ultimately a better way to bring skilled labor into the industry than without any planning of any sort. Obviously this is great for Atlanta, and I wonder if this program will draw people to the city - it doesn't specify whether one has to be a longtime resident of the city to participate. I'm also assuming that this program is a fast track to joining the IATSE local, which is another great feature.
