What's happening on Halloween in Las Vegas
Las Vegas Review-Journal: Halloween is only a couple weeks away. Have you picked out your costume yet? What about your party plans? Have you crafted your itinerary yet? They kind of go hand and hand, don’t they? After all, what good is having a killer getup if you don’t have somewhere to show it off, right? Luckily, there’s still plenty of time to work on both.

I was completely caught off guard by a few items from this article. The first was the ticket prices for some of the events. I now realize that Halloween is an amazing marketing and advertising tool for the entertainment industry. America's infatuation with the holiday makes it a huge opportunity to bring people into shows and events, and it does not surprise me that much that Las Vegas would take complete advantage of that. The second item that shocked me was the difference in ticket prices for men and women at some of the shows, sometimes up to a fifty dollar cheaper ticket price for women. Now there may be something I don't know about the topic but this seems completely absurd. I'm not even upset that as a man going to these events that I would have to pay more, but the reduced rates for women reinforce every existing stereotype of women in the industry of parties and events. The promoters want as many women as possible to be at the event in order to lure men in and create an atmosphere of sexiness for the men to enjoy. I did some further research on the topic and many states have banned this as discriminatory and it is illegal. While seemingly innocent, I think that this is an issue that needs more attention.
Las Vegas is clearly the place to be on Halloween. There are so many very high profile performers who will be doing shows. And the prices are so great that you could go see multiple different artists for under $100…so long as you are a girl. This took me by surprise a little that there are ladies prices and gentleman prices. I did not expect to see that separation in professional institutions. I realize the purpose is to make sure “the ratio” is good for guys which is a little sketchy if you ask me. It could also just be to be nicer to the ladies and not make them pay as much but that is probably not as likely.
I think it is pretty great that so many performers are playing for what is clearly a discounted price from their typical concert prices. It seems like a great business move for Las Vegas because it should attract even more people then it typically does. People love cheap live music, gambling and dressing up so why not go to Las Vegas on Halloween?
Halloween has and always will be a great source of income for the entertainment industry. All over the country haunted house spring up, Move people rent/ watch scary movies, and children buy millions of halloween costumes every year. Vegas already makes tons of cash due to its many casinos and entertainment shows. It make a perfect place for the two to come together, but it should be done so tastefully. I don't think it is right that woman should get a discount while men pick up the slack. They are using the same tactic that night clubs use. Women get in free while men pay huge amounts of money to get a chance to hit it off with them for the night. The other tactic is letting women drink free at the bar while men line up around the block to get in, the reason being is to hit on these woman while they are drunk. I think this is a very serious gender stereotype that hurts both sides. It strengthens the belief that woman are a source of bait and men are willing to be bated. obviously if this were 100% wrong then these clubs and events would be out of business but if it is an issue that we don't want to stand up for then we need to stand against it and fix it.
As wonderful as it would be to be in Las Vegas this time of the year, or any holiday for that matter, it might become a little too much to handle. I’ve only been to Las Vegas once, and in doing so, it wasn’t terribly crazy and hectic, but with a lineup like the one that is being shown, if you’re bored on this Halloween night shame on you. So many of these events would be awesome to attend. Of course you can’t go to everything, and for people like us money would be an issue. Especially if you’re going for the VIP experience. When you have that many artists coming to the same city at the same time, you have your pick as to who you want to see, how else would you be able to attend a concert of some of your favorite artists without waiting for years until they end up passing through town.
