Variety: Broadway played a starring role in the 2015 Academy Awards nominations — just as two nominees are playing starring roles on Broadway.
Both Bradley Cooper, nominated for best actor for “American Sniper,” and Emma Stone, tapped for supporting actress in “Birdman,” are currently playing eight performances a week on Broadway stages. Cooper’s headlining the strong-selling revival of “The Elephant Man” through Feb. 21, while Stone is amping up sales at the revival of “Cabaret,” which she’ll exit Feb. 15.

Quite intriguing, the bridge between live stage acting and film. In a world with smart phones and electronic tablets, live performance faces a treacherous enemy - mediocrity and conformity. Where a film chooses what version of a scene viewers can watch, a live performance has no filter. There is only stage, performers, and audience. Therefore, due to the content of this article, involving the influx of Broadway influences on film, as well as film actors on Broadway, the fear of live performance eventually falling to obscurity is set on the back burner. If anything, the direct link between live performance and film is becoming more tangible and important than ever before. Possibly, humans are beginning to revert back to their innate yearn for catharsis through live performance; what Nietzsche viewed as the truest, least filtered version of reality. I look forward to a continued infiltration - both ways - of Hollywood to Broadway and vice versa.
