The Coolbox Tool Box Has Everything But the Kitchen Sink

ToolGuyd: The Coolbox has a slew of built-in features, such as a whiteboard, a 3-outlet power bar, a built-in 20V 5Ah LiPo battery, a 12′ retractable power cord, a bottle opener, LED flood light, USB charging ports, Bluetooth speakers, a smartphone and tablet stand, a smartphone compartment, and a digital clock.

To me the Coolbox seems like one of the most ridiculous ideas I’ve heard in a while. The fact that the creators are trying to pitch it as a toolbox astounds me, because it seems to be anything but that. Tricked out with a whiteboard, a 3-outlet power bar, a built-in 20V Battery, 12′ retractable power cord, a bottle opener, LED flood light, USB charging ports, Bluetooth speakers, a smartphone and tablet stand, a smartphone compartment, and a digital clock this box is already full of everything but your tools. Maybe it’s just me but when I think of a tool box, I think the most important thing about a tool box is a that it is a box that has plenty of room to store your tools, that should be first and foremost. Sure the Coolbox does leave room for tools, but seconds it to everything else. If you were to bring one of these to a professional worksite I’m sure you’d be laughed at quickly. You may be the cool one who could blast the tunes and open beer for everyone, but when the work gets started you have fundamentally less room for tools because you carry them in a cool tricked out case rather than a normal one. Yes the Coolbox is cool, but it’s more hype than practicality.
Maybe we shouldn’t try to reinvent the box if the box works just fine.

The Coolbox, it’s got quite a bit going for it at the moment. With features that you wish you had portable wherever you went, although I think a downside to the product is it’s lacking in tool space, you would probably have to have the bare minimum in order to get by with a toolbox like this, which might end up causing you to have an additional toolbox for the rest of your tools. There are a few interesting points made after the video about different specs of the product that I’m sure most people like to see before they know what they’re about to invest in. Of course, how often would you want something like this lying around. Now that it’s not just a tool box, but a tool box with accessories, you know there are probably a few extra eyes looking around. It just seems that as neat of a concept as this is, it’s lacking in a few areas.

I agree with Henry, though this looks to be one of the more interesting and definitely one of the more ‘cool’ toolboxes on the market, it focuses on accessories more than it focusses on the actual practicality of a toolbox. A toolbox is nothing if it is not practical, and any additions should be added only if the box has been vetted for practical functions first. That being said, I do like the idea of having three outlets and a battery in my toolbox, and a speaker system would definitely be nice as well. So all in all, I think the concept is a good one, but I very much doubt the thing is worth almost $200. There is a notable comment on the actual article, that it would be more cost efficient, and definitely more useful, to just spend money on customizing a regular toolbox with what you would use every day than buying a toolbox with those features already included.
