This article is fairly relatable for the most part. I think something that was interesting about his account is that he says that he is getting conservatory training in a liberal arts setting. However, he first year classes list no liberal arts classes, only musical theatre classes. Now this may change as you get older, but the classes he listed appears to be a conservatory. I think that our area of study is difficult to fit into a liberal arts setting. It is such a dedicated field and to try and focus on more than that can be extremely difficult. And if you “slim down” you program to account for more liberal arts classes, your quality of training in musical theatre may suffer. However, I am all for and fully support students finding their way of learning and getting the most out of what is in their hands, especially like this student who enjoys meeting others through his liberal arts classes.
