Over the years, it hosted legendary music performances from The Grateful Dead, to Bob Marley and more. Now known as the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts, it is home to the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera.

This mic system is really cool, and it’s amazing that there is now the ability to be able to change mic placement after recording. I don’t really know much about this system, or the software that it works with, but it would be really cool to play around with and I hope that Chris talks about it in class at some point. The point that they make about the difficulty of moving mics once they’re in the space is incredibly valid, especially considering the size of the venue, so to be able to change the location of a mic without actually changing it is really valuable. I wonder how many of these microphones are in the system, because part of the article makes it sound like there’s only one but I’m not sure how the sound could be manipulated the way they’re manipulating it without multiple mics. I’m curious to learn more how this system works, and I wonder if/hope Chris is going to expose us to this kind of stuff next semester.
