Themes of Expo Milano 2015 to be Interpreted by Cirque du Soleil in Original Production

InPark Magazine: Expo 2015 has selected the Cirque du Soleil Group, Events and Special Projects, to create an engaging and unique show concept to be presented during the Universal Expo taking place in Milan, Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015. The 2015 Exhibition theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” embraces culture, tradition, technology, innovation and their relationship with food.

I think this show will be very cool, like all of the other Cirque du Soleil shows. I like that they are creating a show that has an important message that needs to be shared with the world. Art is a great way to make people aware of issues in our world. Art and performance is universal. A lot can be said without using any words at all. This will definitely make an impact on most of the people that see it. Hopefully it will inspire them to help make a difference. This show will be very multicultural because of all of the different cultures being represented and the performers from all around the world.

At first when they said "Food" I was thinking, '... what? Really?' but once they started going into "Nourishing our life force" it suddenly became more interesting. I love that Cirque is taking this everyday concept that seems just so ingrained in our lives and making us see it as something that can be a spectacle! I love how universal Cirque is and how talented everyone involved is. I wish many good things for this show! And I can't wait to see another one of their shows!

I think that Cirque is making an interesting choice by doing this. I don't know exactly how I feel that Cirque is creating a show for an outside organization. Although I think that if they were to be involved with such an event, this should be it. The description of the Expo seems to align with some of Cirque's goals or perhaps themes in shows. This venture also goes to show that Cirque is ready to expand themselves to more than just tent and Vegas shows. While they have been doing some smaller things here and there, this could establish them in the industry of "events" rather than entertainment.

There's no doubt that this will be a huge success. Having seen a few Cirque shows, I know firsthand the quality of work that goes into creating a magnificent piece of thought-provoking entertainment. These guys know what they're doing, and they're some of the best in the world to do it. Hearing about this coming next summer makes me want to speed up my plans to go back and visit my family in Italy in 2015. Hopefully I'll be able to do both. I personally think it is wonderful that they are using so many Italian artists, technicians, and performers to create this production. The Expo 2015 will no doubt be incredible, and Cirque will deliver as it always does.

First of all, this is an amazing idea for theme for an expo as large and all-encompassing as this one. An event like this is right up Cirque's alley, and the fact that the commissioner of the expo wanted to include them in this project only goes to show how important performance art is to the global community. In this particular case, employing Cirque to produce a show within the expo's theme helps to drive the main idea of the event home and aid in provoking change in the way society thinks about out relationship to the earth and our food. And of course Cirque will have a blast putting this show together. This show could even be seen as an offshoot of their touring tent show, Totem, which is about the evolution of life on earth and the interconnectedness of all living things. Adding this theatrical element to this huge expo really shows how much the leaders of this event believe in performance art's ability to effect an audience, promote an idea, and encourage action.

Cirque is such an incredible company. They are constantly pushing boundaries for what can be done in a circus/theatre performance and also what a performance can be classified as. The definition of theatre is slowly evolving and while this is technically an event, Cirque has made a point to make the event a theatrical experience and make the theatrical experience of going to this event very memorable. This company is so lucky to be able to do all of the things they can dream of, and I feel lucky as someone who loves theater, to be able to experience things like this outside of Disney world. This company uses their resources of money and talent to create something that connects humans together. Everyone who has seen a Cirque show is happy to talk about it and often, if they've paid even a little bit of attention, really understand the story and what was happening aside from the crazy circus skills. I can't wait to hear what Cirque does next. Every time Cirque creates a new show I feel like I've learned something new about what can be imagined and what is within the realm of possibility.

Ugh this makes me soo jealous! I wish the United States still participated in Worlds Fairs! These expositions are such a unique meeting of science, art, technology, and culture. Expo 2015 has made a smart move in choosing Cirque to create a show to exhibit the themes of the Fair. Each Cirque show that I have seen has been unlike anything i've ever seen prior and I am sure that they will find an innovative and artful way to capture the essence of the 2015 expo. The last Cirque show that I saw was LOVE and it was incredible! You doubt going into it that they can uniquely create a Beatles experience, but they do! I wish I could see this expo show in 2015.

It seems that this collaboration will be very successful. I do wish the article had given more information instead of regurgitating the same publicity facts over and over. I did not realize that Cirque du Solei contracted with organizations, such as industry conferences, to create productions. I wouldn't be surprised if people went to the conference just to see the production. It is also notable that Cirque du Solei will be using artists from Italy, instead of bringing in their own people to do everything.

I think expo Milano 2015 is a perfect event for Cirque to get involved in. Coming close second would be maybe the Olympics. The fact that Milan attracts many designers and artists just like Cirque brings to an audience will prove to be a spectacular event. I hope that cirque implements the culture and story of the people of Milan rather than create an unrelated, but still very beautiful, show. I look forward to hearing more.

I'm honestly totally sure how to feel about this. On one hand, I know that people will eat it up regardless of content simply because Cirque can do no wrong, but I also worry that it might come out a little tacky. Hopefully they'll be able to elevate the idea into something powerful and interesting, which I totally have faith that they will be able to. I think the idea of it is just a little difficult to work with on a very basic level, but I think that could of course do some interesting interpretative work in terms of the themes being presented at the Expo. I'll be interested in reading about the crowds reactions to the performance.
