All Blogs - Is Your Company Full of ‘Dream Builders?’

www.residentialsystems.com: My parents met working at Disneyland in California, so you could definitely say that Disney holds a special place in my heart. And for me, there is no place as full of dreams and magic as Disney, “land” or “World,” depending on your geographic persuasion. At a Disney theme park, practically everything is perfect and designed with the sole purpose of making guests feel as happy and special as possible, turning us all into kids for the day and lifting us out of the “real” world and into something better and more special for the hours we are inside the gates.

We make fun of Disney and their company and call them evil. But in the larger sense they are great at what they do. This image of Disney that they portray is so rarely blemished and even if it is, it is soon reversed to it's previous image. They really do a great job of cultivating their team of workers to give the best product all the time. Their mentality that every member of the team is important is one of the reasons they are so great. By fostering this mindset with everyone you can really get great results. Their calling of everyone "cast members" is another way to make sure everyone feels included and part of the experience. I know in theatre we do our best to call everyone part of the "creative team" and so that keeps everyone invested and involved. We make people's dreams come true is one of the reasons the theatre industry is so much fun. We are the conduit that allows the audience to project their dreams on us and so we have to do everything we can to accommodate. This is our power and that is why it is so much fun.

Disney World is pretty much the epitome of what we try to do in theater. Suspend disbelief. We don’t want people to think twice about someone flying over their head if we put them in a world where people can fly. Disney does a great job of doing this. The quotes Walt Disney has in this article are truly inspirational for me as someone that tries to produce these effects. The first one especially “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible” is one that stands out since that is basically what we try to do everyday. It is impossible to do in real life a lot of the effects and actions we make onstage. “I don’t want to public to see the world they live in when they are in the park. I want them to feel they’re in a different world.” This is another important quote because it is something we strive for as well and something I love to do.

Whenever I go to Disney World, I often read all of the construction wall signs also. Walt Disney was an extremely smart and creative man, and the way he ran his company is something I think we should all strive to emulate. Whenever i read quotes from the man, its really inspiring and helps me find the drive that i need to finish a project. The way the walt disney company operates and the principles upon which it were founded are some of the many reasons why I want to work for them once i graduate college. In terms of this article, I think the pictures were much more useful than the comments. and the author didnt really provide much context for what he actually did, which would have been useful.
