DeWalt TSTAK Trolley and Cart

Tools of the Trade: A year ago this spring we published a story about modular tool organizers and in it author Greg Burnet said of the TSTAK boxes, “a dedicated cart with a means to secure boxes would be a welcome addition” to the system. A few months later at media event the TSTAK product manager showed me some prototypes of a trolley and cart that were under development. The TSTAK Trolley (DWST178888) and TSTAK Cart (DWST17889) are now both out—and are proving to be welcome additions.

This was interesting to look at in relation to the other cart that was talked about this week. It's nice to see a cart integrate with their other products and make transportation a little bit easier, but the accessibility of this cart with piling on the other boxes on top of each other makes it a little bit less useful in my mind. If you need to get to anything stored at the bottom then you have to unload everything which can be a bit of a pain. However, having the option to fold up the cart itself, thus making it easier to travel does have it's advantages. By having it modular it does allow for more home workers who might not have access to a truck or such be able to take their tools to another venue. So it seems like a good idea overall, it just depends on each persons individual preference and need.

I remember reading and commenting on the original article they referred to and it's nice to see that, even though I'm sure it wasn't a result of the article, companies are listening to consumers and really putting a lot of thought into improving their products. Realizing that a tool storage system is going to be heavy but needs to be portable and then developing a couple different options is good. I do agree with Tyler that accessibility might be an issue but I think that with a modular system in general that would be a problem. I also think they could have made, especially the trolley, more adaptable for other uses on a job site. Otherwise they both look like really useful additions for anyone that has the TSTAK system.
