CONCEPT ART: To Go Where No Spaniard Has Gone Before – Star Trek in Murcia
InPark Magazine: “Plaza Futura will be designed to appeal to Star Trek fans. 3D renderings depict a large futuristic square that will include a Starfleet Spain recruiting center, a 3D simulator ride (which allows guests/recruits to experience adventures in outer space), and a Warp Speed Coaster that will reach exciting heights and speeds and include an underground portion (a wormhole, naturally) and several loops.”

I'm no Star Trek fan by any means, but these renderings looks incredible. I'm a huge fan of amusement parks and have always wanted to design roller coasters as a kid, but once I found out what kind of brain it takes I was turned off. These concepts are crazy and start to blur the lines between park and future city environment. At first I was blow away at these design, but the more I stare at the renderings the more scared I get. I don't know what I find so shocking, but I think its just crazy how our society is developing very quickly and cities and going to look like that one day I believe. If I happen to be in Spain in the future I will have to check this park out.
THIS LOOKS SO COOL! I think amusement and theme parks are the most interactive forms of theater and entertainment. It is like you are walking through a complex digital, interactive set all day! The renderings for this new Paramount park are gorgeous and really sell this project. Just the architectural design of this complex looks incredibly beautiful and more professional than any other amusement park that I have seen. I wonder how they will compensate for the technology in Star Trek with the design of this park. I am excited to see the finished product...and maybe one day I can visit and see this star trek world for myself.
I might not be a huge fan of the Star Trek series but i think this theme park is absolutely stunning. My brother is a huge fan of Star Trek and i see a trip here in our future if it does actually get built. I've always wondered who gets to have a hand in designing these things especially when modeled after things we see on screen. Did the production designer have a hand in this and which one or did all living production designers meet for this or did they bring on a whole new set of eyes. I also love the idea that you can just lose yourself in this world and believe you really are a recruit (with the right amount of imagination)
I'm a fan of star trek, but I'm not sure that this theme park would be that fun. I like a lot of the things that they are including in the park, but others seem forced and don't seem to fit with what we all love about star trek. For example simulators are a great fit because simulators play a large part in the show and films but they also allow park goers to make the sort of choices that are dealt with ever week on the show. On the other hand the roller coaster doesn't seem to fit at all. Unlike doctor who, the enterprise doesn't shake and bounce when it travels at warp speed. So a roller coaster based on that idea doesn't fit. An action packed ride isn't something that star trek is known for. Sure star trek has always had it's action scenes, but for the most part they are not the key draw.
One last idea I have about these images is that all the park goes are wearing 2014 street cloths. I think that they should make everyone wear a star fleet uniform so that they world really feels like star trek.
