I think this is a really interesting concept past the obvious use of technology. I think the fact that they are heightening the effect of these invisible forces that surround us is a great metaphor for how fashion heightens the effect that clothes represent us and our bodies. This could be seen as really concrete by looking at the specific garments but it goes further than that. How people perceive us and how we perceive people is an invisible force that affect us day to day. How clothes can help us understand this in the same way this digital fashion art helps us explore these different forces in a different way than we would have previously.
With the ever-increasing bond between fashion and technology – such as interactive clothing/accessories, 3D printing, and fabric printing – the interactive code art films at POST exhibition are an apt way to showcase this type of haute-couture. And the venue. Sigh… What a fantastic juxtaposition. Of POSTmatter’s three installations – Gravity, Ripple, and Echo – I am most drawn to Ripple for both its tactile quality and beautiful visuals. Definitely click the link to watch Maiko Takeda’s spiky headdress glow in the dark (seemingly partially in response to touch). The beautifully shot mini-movie is a must-see. I also enjoy the make-up design on this one!
And I like Lukos’ comment above about our perception of each other as an invisible force. Nice!
THIS IS SOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!! Ok, so I love the interaction between fashion and technology! I would love it if it were possible to do something like this in real life... Ok, what I mean is using technology to manipulate shapes on an actual person rather than on a screen. I think the pictures are absolutely breath taking. I can't wait to see what can happen in the future with technology. Fashion photography is awesome because there are so many possibilities!
