Minnesota Dance Theatre’s entire board steps down

Star Tribune: In a surprise announcement on Tuesday, the entire Minnesota Dance Theatre board resigned, saying “it is no longer able to serve the needs of the organization going forward.”
A statement signed by the board said “the organization remains solvent and critically successful. We hope that the company and school will continue to succeed in the hands of a new board and the artistic director.”

The idea of an entire board stepping down is insane. Especially since it does not seem that the company is in a point of disaster. The board's resignation may indicate a fissure behind closed doors. I am curious if their unanimous resignation will effect the company's reputation, status, and financial support. Something like this certainly does not happen for positive reasons. It is also interesting to note that the recent associate artistic director was not at the company for very long.

While it's understandable that the company had its issues, it is at the same time astonishing that resignations would occur on such a large scale. I agree with Michael in that there must have been something behind the scenes that had to go very wrong before every single member of a twenty person board felt that the best choice would be to step down. Perhaps this is more common in a business world that I am unaware of, but it certainly seems to be a strange situation. It seems like though struggling somewhat, the company is luckily still going to keep moving, though I wonder how they are taking the loss and what the process is for finding an entirely new board.
