NYTimes.com: There was no way that Julie Taymor was ever going to dream a little “Dream.” The director who redefined spectacle on Broadway for better (“The Lion King”) and for worse (“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark”) has now given New York a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” that doesn’t so much reach for the heavens as roll around in them, with joyous but calculated abandon.

I just booked tickets to see this, I am extremely excited. I recently saw a Ted Talk of her's and she mentioned how she always starts brainstorming for a production with an image. For the Lion king- a circle, for the tempest- a sand castle, and so on. She tries to have the whole play anchored in this image. I wonder what will be at the core of this production. From the article, I am so happy to hear that she finally figured out how to beautifully yet safely use fly systems. It seems as if this piece will be visually stunning but possibly lacking in performance. I think that if one goes into the show just as a visual experience, rather than a "play," it might yield a better response.
I was surprised to see that the theater is oriented as a thrust stage rather than the typical Proscenium layout of Broadway theaters. As the article mentions, the way a large landscape is fit into such an intimate space is impressive itself. It seems that the show has an incredible production team that collaborated very fluidly together.
