Triple threat Campayno is currently a senior at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, and a native of Pittsburgh, PA. His local credits include Billy Bigelow in Carousel and Side by Side by Sondheim at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. His uncle is Emmy Award winning makeup artist Joseph Campayno, who also serves as the telecast's key makeup artist.

I'm so proud of Michael for getting this! It speaks so highly of our students that the actors are able to go out before they even graduate and have their skills be this desirable. It probably makes a great contrast and learning experience to be able to compare production work here with that in the outside world, especially because this is a hybrid tv-theatre experience (theatre-like rehearsals, live tv performance, which is actually similar to TV projects in a way). Anyway, I can't wait to watch the broadcast, and to hear about michael's experience when he gets back.
This article makes me so happy. I am so proud of/excited for Michael! He deserves this and I cannot wait to see how he shines alongside Carrie Underwood, Christian Borle, Audra McDonald and more! I knew from the moment I met Michael that he would be a star, and this just goes to show how fantastically talented he is! I have a strong feeling that Michael will land another role VERY quickly after this has aired.
It's really awesome reading articles like this and seeing just how great cmu students and alumni are doing in the theatre community. I'm glad so many of our students are given the opportunities to really go out there and do something that truly inspires them and makes them happy. I can only imagine how exciting this must be for Michael. I must also add just how awesome our cmu community is. Everyone is so happy for Michael and it's just great to see the cmu community really appreciating everything we do and for being happy for each other when opportunities like this arrive. I'm glad our school has this amazing network/bond that is always there to be a support system time and time again.
It's great that CMU has been able to garner so much attention in the last year or two, with some young alumni and even current students landing jobs and being recognized for their talent. As someone who will be looking for a job very very soon, I think it helps a lot to have the CMU name being recognized more in the industry (not that it wasn't recognized before). It also brings some attention to the importance of drama school (in response to that article from last week). That both Michael and Christian Boyle are CMU alums and are two of the important roles in this telecast say something.
I have to be very fond of any article that leads with "...is a senior at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama" which strangely i read in peter cooke's voice. Congratulations to Michael this truly is incredible. Just like Kyle Selig its fantastic to see people doing so well so quickly with the training they are receiving here. Reminds me that the stress and torment we put ourselves through here is worth every second of it.
It always amazes me to think of my friends and fellow students doing things like this! I always think as celebrities and stars being people who I would never know, but like Cat said, in the past two years, the students from CMU have become stars. I cannot wait until the time that I can tell my friends and family that I went to school and had classes with the star of their newest favorite movie. But this recognition by the world, is totally deserved! I know that my peers (i.e., Corey Cott, Kyle Selig, and Michael Campayno) have all worked so hard for everything they have got. I think that is the best things about CMU, is that it nurtures a strong work ethic in a majority of it's students to work hard. And this has most certainly has paid off.
This is really truly cool. Being a freshman here at CMU, it is awesome to see someone from my school doing extremely well. The fact that someone can land such a role before they even graduate is phenomenal and speaks a lot about the program that they came from. The Drama School at CMU is at such a high caliber that students often leave early to pursue other professional lines of work before their tome as a student is even over. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to attend such a great school and program.
