Watch actors perform their very own death-defying stunts
io9.com: Most Hollywood actors are forbidden from doing all but the simplest stunts, because of the studio's insurance policies. But some actors still demand to be in the thick of the action, while some comedians performed death-defying tricks before the term "stunt doubles" even existed. Discover who put themselves in mortal danger for your entertainment!

I think it is very cool to see both the final products and the awesome stunt coordination that was shown in many of these videos. It is both amazing and vastly entertaining to see all of these death-defying actors, but it makes you think about what amazing press stunt doubles should receive. All of these actors have Oscars or at least awards and nominations to their names but what recognition is being given to the performers who fill in for other award winners in other movies.
Let's face it: Stunts are cool. They can take a B-Movie to a blockbuster. Honestly, who doesn't love to see people do things that could normally kill them. But, they're also dangerous as all get out. One only has to look at Jackie Chan to see the potential for actual death in an actor doing their own stunts. After all, even after decades of experience, he still gets hurt sometimes. Professionally trained stunt doubles can do it relatively safely, which is why they're usually used. So, when an actor has the training and ability to do that crazy, death-defying leap: more power to them. But if not: leave it to the professionals, we don't want to lose anyone to pride.
Well this divides actors into two groups. Actors who know what they are doing and actors who don't. Actors who can be their own stunt double deserve praise and sometimes worship for the stunts they pull off. I have endless respect for people like Jackie Chan who do the extra work to get the really cool shots without stunt doubles. In a movie I saw with him recently it was apparent that he had gotten a stunt double. I afford him a litte leeway because he is getting pretty old. Actors such as Arnold Swartzenegger give me the impression that their stunts are done for their own pride. Arnold is even going to be in the next terminator movie despite his age. No doubt movies look better when the actors do not need stunt doubles. Finding actors who can do that safely is where you might find the trouble.
