5 Employees Who Will Be Getting A Raise

Come Recommended: Too often, those who want a pay raise look to outside influences when what they should be doing is looking at themselves. If you want to get a raise, then you have to give your employer a reason to say, “Yes.” Become one (or better yet, all) of the five employees below to turn the raise you want into the raise you deserve.

It it definitely interesting to see this and not only from a theatrical stance. I think in general these 5 things apply to workers in any field. The article doesn’t reference any particular field, but I think these apply quite well to theater professionals.Working in the technical and production areas mostly, not only working to get a raise, but working to the job you want, those who are constantly doing their jobs proactively and keep up with what’s happening will always get ahead. Answering the author’s final question, I think it is also important to promote yourself and our accomplishments, in a humble fashion of course, but make your boss be aware that you would like a raise or that job that just opened up.

I find this article interesting from a theatrical stand point. Theatre, especially from a technical standpoint,is very creative and requires one think outside of the box. For this reason I would think these tips would be obvious. There is so much to get done in a production that, for example, the "What else?" and "I've got it" employees should be the norm. One can't be average, one has to be exceptional, especially in theatre.

In answer to the author's question, in order to get a raise one should, first, find a job they love, and second, do that job to the best of their ability, always looking to improve.

I think its pretty obvious the practices one need to enact in order to make them suitable for a raise. Raises are awarded to people who go above and beyond which makes them deserve the extra salary. If an employee only does what is asked of him or her they are preforming a job they are already being paid for and will probably continue to be paid the same amount. Its also reasonable to assume that an employee that makes a boss' job easier also save that boss time and money. So an employee who goes above and beyond also clears up more money in circulation that can be given to them in a raise. Therefore people who want raises need to show they are truly deserving of them.
