MathWorks Modernizes Model-Based Design

Design News - CAD/CAM Corner: Model-based design is a powerful yet complex concept. Simulink, MathWorks' core block diagram environment for generating code and designing systems, has pretty much maintained the same user interface for the last few years. But the latest MathWorks update, Simulink Release 2012b, takes the user interface challenge head on by modernizing the system to make it more accessible and user friendly.

I think that it's fantastic that software companies are trying their best to make using software easier for the users. I think that we should not have to work hard to use the tool, the tool should do the work to work with us. Tabed browsing and file trees are useful, but it seems that perhaps Simulink is just trying to cash in on a trend in user interface design. I would love to see some really new consents in software like this. I would love to try out this software, because it sounds fun , and now hopefully easy to learn.

I love the ability to model things in the computer before using actual physical components. Much like using 3d CAD allows us to foresee problems where components do not work. It looks like this software will allow for complex modeling of electrical components without laying out the cash. I like the integration of existing platforms such as arduino and C++ which would make component and software integration much easier. IF I knew C or arduino better this would be amazing.
