Creating musicals from other media like film seems to be a trend these days. I will be interested to read reviews on this show to see if critics found positive comparisons between the show and the start for its inspiration, the film. Another thing I will be looking for is to see if the new songs added to the score are widely accepted. One thing I especially liked reading about is that the traveling tour will start in the city where the show takes place.
I'm really excited to see this story take on a new form for the stage. There is a lot that one can do with this movie and a lot of dance scenes (obviously) that would be really fun to choreograph. I really want to see the water and chair scene done on stage with the dramatic lighting. That scene in the movie, as well as her other dancing scenes have such incredible silhouettes that a lighting designer would just die for. The leotard and the leg warmers also started some major trends in fashion and set the style at the time. As a costume designer, that kind of costume is pretty basic but it could be interesting to try and find an angle to that look. It should be just as fun for the design team as it probably will be for the director and the actors.
Man, I can't wait til the Broadway musicals of Breakfast at Tiffany's and Revenge of the Nerds open. That'll be rad.
