Live Sound: Welcome To The Torture Palace - Changing The Mix Position Can Wreck A Room

Pro Sound Web: I recall a club show on a tour I mixed where the house console had been moved under an extremely low balcony, placed all the way at the very back, and turned sideways! And, between me and the dance floor was a stairwell to a lower level that I had to detour around every time I went to check out what was actually happening in the room.

the world of sound is a very interesting one. designers are so hands on during production and runs, that it is very different than most other departments. having mixed sound recently, and having put on more than 20 productions in a house in which you can't see out of the booth, i understand the authors frustration. but making it work is what theater is about. it is upsetting to see that mixers, very talented and particular people, have such obstacles in their way, but if they can do a good job around those obstacles, they are successful
