Pittsburgh PublicTheater Costume Sale
Living Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh Public Theater is transforming the lobby of Downtown’s O’Reilly Theater into a booming marketplace for the sale of costume and clothing pieces – some vintage, some traditional, and some decidedly odd – as The Public launches a one-day, cash only costume and clothing sale just in time for Halloween shopping. Bargain prices!

This is great that a theater is selling some of their things to the public. I wonder what the price of things are going to be since they are saying that it will be reasonable. Costumes are usually expensive to make and time consuming. It is probably that they ran out of space and need to open some up. I am sure that some of the things that they will be selling they will need in the coming years and they will be regretting it. Also I wonder how all of the things are going to fit normal people due to actresses usually being very small. I am definitely going to try to go and see what they have.
This is a great idea and I'm happy to see that CMU Drama is capitalizing as well. It's a great way to refresh your stock and at the same time help people have a really awesome Halloween. While I am unsure about the policies and reasoning behind it, I think that if CMU had advertised the costume sale more towards the general public, similarly to the Public Theater, they would make more money.
I love that theatres have costume sales for the public. It’s a great way to clean out storage and redistribute costumes to people or other theatres that can actually use them. It is also a great way for theatres to give back to and connect with their community. Most theatres have a tendency to pack-rat things away thinking that they will be useful sometime in the future. This is fairly justified in that we often need very random and hard to make props and costumes for shows. Public costume sales are a great way to ensure that all of the costumes in storage are actually worth keeping.
