NYTimes.com: "“It was just beyond anything I had ever expected,” she said. “Every detail on it took my breath away.”
Ms. Hilferty, who won a Tony for her “Wicked” costumes, had seen such emotional responses before.
“A costume designer works with actors on a very, very intimate level,” she said. “My real work is watching them see themselves in a mirror.”

This article presented a great representation of the process of a single costume for a production with a high level of caliber. I've always been quite a fan of Susan Hilferty's work, so it was wonderful to jump into the lens of her creation process. I hold a great level of respect for Susan's consideration for the actor's input and characterization through the costume's development. For any area of design, I find that it is something that can be overlooked in the initial design processes but is in fact very crucial. I also admire Hilferty for her supreme innovation and use of "non fabric" items for inspiration in this costume. It's beautifully designed and wonderfully constructed.
