Video Sneak Peek: Haunted Mansion Interactive Queue at Magic Kingdom Park

Disney Parks Blog: "Attention Foolish Mortals: Walt Disney Imagineering has an exclusive first look at the new interactive queue being added to the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom Park – and it’s something you’ll want to check out. Your experience will now begin with a new story line inspired by some of your favorite characters previously seen only inside the Haunted Mansion. There are new crypts and other “spooky” sights to see as well as my favorite tombstones with witty epitaphs to the dearly departed like, “Drink A Toast To Our Friend Ken, Fill Your Glass And Don’t Say ‘When.’”

It's not a terrible addition. But it just sounds/looks tacky. And I was expecting something more high-tech like Mr. Potato Head audio-animatronic as opposed to an "interactive" queue element as simple as this; which has been in existence since Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin (94) and Indiana Jones queue (95). And before they spend money on these "enhancements," I'd like to see WDW create better live entertainment offerings because things are getting downright rusty and stale there.

It seems like some nice decoration, but I don't know why a blog that is presumably geared towards marketing is advertising the queue for an attraction rather than the attraction itself. Was this part of some larger overhaul in the Haunted Mansion? I would have liked to see a video that was either focused on the details or on their production; this was focused on neither. It is cool that they made the changeover in one night - it reminds me of the timelapse of the Cirque show that replaced its sound system between performances.

I don't really understand the importance of the addition and how it adds to show. I did like hearing about how the imagineers put little things in about them into the park. But I don't understand why this blog is up exactly. Are the trying to market the ride of the queue and what exactly is so interesting that they needed a blog about it. And I agree with Hiro this isn't the first time they have done this before in their parks.

I love it when rides do things to keep the line busy. Waiting in line can be so dreadful, but unfortunately on the rides I have taken it seems that the interactive part doesn't start for a while. Honestly the most important thing on everyone's mind in line is when they are finally going to be in the air conditioning, or how far away the next fan is. The interact stuff can be a nice distraction from the heat and the people though.

i agree with hiro, i think that this addition will severely reduce the aesthetic distance (admittedly maybe not a huge concern for the creators of the attraction)of the attraction as a whole. the aesthetic distance may not be a huge concern, but the experience which the attraction generates is absolutely important. i think that if this increase in aesthetic distance damages the experience (which it may) then they have failed.

I was expecting something a little cooler. The haunted mansion has so manny cool effects like the mirrors that make it look like theres a ghost in your car that you can only see in the mirror. and everyone has a different ghost. Theres the ballroom scene with the ghosts, projections I guess. I thought they would add more illusion type things. Although I guess the ride lacks interaction. I mean direct interaction. I wish this article talked about how they the illusions on that ride. Plus I don't see why they felt that the ride needed humor… I think that addition is a poor one. The ride as it is is a mix between scary and cool. Not funny.
