Washington Ballet to premiere new ‘Alice’ next season

The Washington Post: "The Washington Ballet will dance on the Turkish Riviera and bring a bit of Lady Gaga into the Kennedy Center in its 2011-12 season, the company has announced. Among the highlights are its first overseas tour in six years, a world-premiere production of “Alice (in Wonderland),” a program devoted to Twyla Tharp in honor of the choreographer’s 70th birthday and a run of “Nutcrackers” saluting the 50th anniversary of the company’s first production of the holiday staple.

Things cycle. Alice in Wonderland seems really hot right now. I am not sure what happened in popular conscience to get everyone so interested about this show. I did some research online (Wikipedia)and it turns out there have been Alice stage adaptions for the past 130 years. Before the ink was dry on Lewis Carrol's book, there was a London stage adaption. I guess its just that this story is so timeless and compelling that makes it so adaptable. Thank God for public domain.
